A complex organ and tissue retrieval operation took place at Alba Iulia County Emergency Hospital, marking the first such event in 15 years. A 38-year-old donor in a state of brain death provided organs for multiple patients. The liver and kidneys were transplanted in Romania, while the heart and lungs were sent abroad. The operation involved medical teams from Romania, Germany, and Switzerland, and utilized a Black Hawk helicopter for transport. This event signifies the hospital's return to transplant activities after establishing a new specialized medical team and gaining eligibility for accreditation from the National Transplant Agency.
