ANAF has uncovered a cross-border VAT fraud scheme involving over 2,000 second-hand cars, resulting in a loss of over 26 million lei. Measures have been taken to secure assets worth 21.34 million lei. The investigation revealed the use of 'missing trader' companies in Hungary and Slovakia to facilitate tax evasion. Fake invoices and contracts were also identified, with significant discrepancies in car valuations. The operation was managed from Romania, creating a facade of legitimate transactions.
