The prefect of Brașov convened an urgent meeting with local mayors to discuss legal procedures for dealing with dangerous bears after a fatal attack in Hoghiz. Many mayors are hesitant to order the shooting of bears due to fears of legal repercussions from NGOs. The prefect emphasized that local authorities have the obligation to act in such situations and clarified that they can intervene without legal issues. The reluctance to act is also noted in Mureș County, where only three bears have been culled this year due to similar fears. According to the law, intervention is allowed when bears pose a threat to people or property, with measures including scaring, tranquilizing, or euthanizing the animal if necessary.
