Portretul profesorului european: Femeie și trecută de prima tinerețe. Cifrele Eurostat de Ziua Mondială a Educației
In 2024, over 5.3 million teachers worked in EU primary and secondary schools, with a significant aging issue noted. More than 40% of teachers were aged 50 or older, while only 8% were under 30. The data, released by Eurostat on World Teachers' Day, highlighted a generational imbalance, particularly in five member states where over half of teachers were over 50. Lithuania had the highest percentage at 58.4%, followed by Portugal and Italy. Conversely, Ireland had only 20.8% of teachers aged 50 and above. The teaching workforce is predominantly female, with women making up 72.9% of teachers. The statistics reveal considerable differences in age distribution among teachers across EU countries, indicating varying success in attracting younger educators.
