A contingent of Romanian firefighters has departed for Greece to assist in wildfire prevention efforts from August 1 to September 15, 2026. The mission, coordinated by the Department for Emergency Situations, aims to support Greek authorities in managing wildfire risks. The first group consists of 40 firefighters heading to Nea Makri, equipped with specialized firefighting vehicles. Additional contingents will rotate in to ensure continuous support. This program is funded by the EU and is part of a broader strategy to combat wildfires in Southern Europe, with Romania participating for the fifth consecutive year.
