Poland is modernizing its civil defense shelters to create an underground shield for its population amid rising tensions with Russia. The initiative aims to upgrade over 10,000 outdated shelters, many dating back to the Cold War, to enhance safety for citizens. The government plans to establish around 32,000 shelters nationwide, supported by an 8 billion euro budget. New regulations require shelters to be equipped with essential supplies and emergency exits in newly constructed buildings. Authorities are also providing guidance to households on emergency preparedness, including food reserves and a mobile app for locating nearby shelters.
