The contract with Pfizer was negotiated by the European Commission in 2021, but Poland halted acceptance of doses in April 2022 due to decreased demand and other factors. Pfizer has initiated legal action to enforce the contract, and the Brussels court upheld the agreement. Romania is also facing legal action from Pfizer for refusing to accept contracted doses, with a court ruling obligating it to pay €600 million and accept nearly 29 million doses. Both countries' rulings total approximately €1.9 billion, allowing Pfizer and BioNTech to pursue recovery despite ongoing appeals.
