Medical reasons led to the suspension of his extradition, and the process is now dependent on Italian justice. Arsene was arrested in Italy in March 2023, but his first extradition request was denied in May. The Italian court later approved his extradition, prompting Romanian authorities to prepare for his transfer. Arsene, a former PSD Neamț president, was sentenced to 6 years and 8 months for influence trafficking.
