In the first eight months of 2026, Romanian police seized over 65 million cigarettes and approximately 9.7 tons of tobacco in anti-smuggling operations. They issued over 1,000 fines totaling over 7 million lei and conducted 327 integrated actions against tobacco smuggling. A total of 494 criminal cases were registered, involving 652 individuals, and seven criminal groups were dismantled. The operations also led to the identification of numerous customs and tax violations.
