Podul feroviar Giurgiu–Ruse se închide opt luni în 2027
Rail traffic between Romania and Bulgaria will be completely halted for eight months in 2027 due to modernization works. The closure, from April 5 to December 13, affects both passenger and freight trains. Alternative routes through Golenți–Vidin to Sofia and Negru Vodă–Kardam to Varna have been proposed. The project, valued at 2.1 billion lei, involves electrification and modernization of the Bucharest–Giurgiu line, executed by Arcada and Alstom. However, it remains unclear who will electrify the Bulgarian section beyond the border. The modernization aims to improve travel times and efficiency, but concerns about partial electrification persist.
