The High Court of Cassation and Justice upheld a previous ruling from the Bucharest Court of Appeal, which stated that the party was not entitled to public funding for its electoral expenses after the annulment of the first round of the presidential elections in November 2024. Following the Constitutional Court's decision, the government issued an emergency ordinance for the reimbursement of electoral expenses, but the AEP determined that PNL should only receive funds from private financing, not public. Consequently, PNL was ordered to return the public funding it had received, leading to the legal disputes that culminated in this final ruling.
