PNL, obligat definitiv să restituie 14 milioane de lei pentru campania prezidențială a lui Nicolae Ciucă

The National Liberal Party (PNL) must repay over 14 million lei to the state budget after losing a legal battle regarding campaign financing for Nicolae Ciucă's presidential campaign. The High Court of Cassation and Justice upheld a previous ruling by the Bucharest Court of Appeal, confirming that PNL was only entitled to reimbursements for privately funded expenses, not those covered by public funds. This decision follows the annulment of the first round of the 2024 presidential elections by the Constitutional Court, which led to the adoption of an emergency ordinance allowing candidates to request reimbursement for electoral expenses. PNL's request for reimbursement included both private and public funding, but the electoral authority determined that only private expenses were eligible for repayment. Consequently, PNL is required to return the specified amount, as the court's ruling is final.
