The price of diesel fuel has increased by 50 bani in the last two weeks, with a new law aimed at reducing excise duties not yet in effect. As of July 31, 2026, standard diesel costs 10.68 lei/liter, while premium diesel is at 11.48 lei/liter. A recent parliamentary bill aims to temporarily lower excise and VAT rates, but experts believe the proposed reductions are insufficient to significantly aid drivers. Concerns about fuel supply shortages due to geopolitical tensions in the Black Sea have also been raised, although some experts argue that these fears are unfounded. If the new law were enacted immediately, diesel prices could drop by 30-40 bani per liter.
