Fuel prices in Romania have surged significantly since the beginning of 2026, with diesel increasing by 165 lei and gasoline by 110 lei. The average price for diesel reached 10.84 lei per liter, while gasoline hit 9.55 lei. This marks a nearly 50% rise in diesel prices and a 30% increase in gasoline prices over the first seven months of the year. Romania ranks 14th in the EU for the cheapest gasoline and 17th for diesel. A new law aimed at addressing fuel price crises has been adopted, proposing temporary tax reductions and other measures.
