On September 6, humanity reached "Plastic Overshoot Day," marking the point where annual plastic waste exceeds global management capacity. A report predicts that by 2026, around 72 million tons will be improperly managed, representing 31.6% of this year's total plastic waste. Despite a slight improvement in waste management, the overall volume continues to rise, with global plastic waste increasing from 202 million tons in 2021 to nearly 227 million tons by 2026. Environmental organizations highlight the dangers of plastic, which contains thousands of harmful chemicals and can infiltrate the food chain. Developed economies like the UK and the US generate nearly three times more plastic waste per capita than the global average, emphasizing the need for better management and reduction strategies.
