This initiative aims to enhance payment infrastructure amid increasing digital transactions. Customers will be able to use their cards with a PIN for essential purchases even without network connectivity. The technology will enable secure storage of spending limits on the card chip, allowing transactions up to 200 euros without online authorization. This functionality has already been tested successfully in several European countries during crises, and Mastercard is expanding it across Europe to improve resilience against disruptions.
