Hungary is taking drastic measures to prevent an energy crisis due to low Danube water levels. The government plans to build an underwater dam and sink two barges to ensure water supply for the Paks nuclear power plant. Construction will use 150,000 cubic meters of stone and will be supported by 100 soldiers working around the clock. The aim is to maintain water levels above -90 centimeters to keep the plant operational. Recent low water levels have already affected shipping and reduced the plant's power output. The project is considered a priority investment by local authorities.
