The Allied landing beaches in Normandy have been added to UNESCO's World Heritage List, recognizing their historical significance from D-Day in 1944. The French submission includes five key beaches and Pointe du Hoc, which were crucial in the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi occupation. ICOMOS highlighted the sites' preservation of battle remnants and recommended enhanced monitoring due to tourism and climate change risks. Other sites added include Mount Olympus in Greece and ancient capitals in Japan.
