The U.S. Army confirmed the safety of SIG Sauer M17 and M18 pistols after extensive inspections, following a fatal incident in 2025. Both models were found to be reliable, with no issues leading to unintended discharges. The inspections involved nearly 114,000 weapons and over 1.5 million rounds fired. Despite ongoing civil lawsuits regarding the P320 platform, the Army's findings support the reliability of these firearms. There are ongoing negotiations for potential acquisition of these models by Romania, in collaboration with Moldova and Ukraine.
