Piramidele din Meroe, sit al Patrimoniului Mondial UNESCO, amenințate de război și acumularea de nisip din Sudan
The ongoing war in Sudan poses a significant threat to the ancient Meroe pyramids, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Conservation efforts have ceased, leading to concerns about potential disasters and structural collapses. The accumulation of sand and vegetation is causing deterioration, while salt from the sand is damaging fragile stones and ancient inscriptions. The conflict, which began in April 2023, has already resulted in the destruction of numerous historical sites and museums, with UNESCO warning of increasing threats to cultural heritage.
