Octavian Ciovică, a national champion in mountain speed racing, has been sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison for influence peddling and blackmail. The court reduced his initial sentences after an appeal. He was found guilty of demanding money from an entrepreneur to facilitate a business permit. Ciovică, a former local councilor and vice-president of PNL in Brașov, will also face a two-year ban from holding public office after serving his sentence. Additionally, the court ordered the confiscation of 4,750 euros and 1,500 lei.
