The mandatory private pension funds in Romania have reached net assets of 246.7 billion lei, with net gains surpassing 100 billion lei for the first time. Over 350,000 participants have received payments totaling 7.9 billion lei. Approximately 8.5 million people are enrolled in the second pillar, with 4.6 million contributing regularly. Most assets are invested domestically, primarily in government bonds and listed companies. The system has been operational for over 18 years, serving as a key long-term savings mechanism.
