The Romanian auto market has experienced the largest decline in the EU in 2026, with a drop of 10.6%. In contrast, Hungary and Bulgaria saw increases of 12.1% and 9.8%, respectively. While the overall EU market grew by 5.3%, Romania's figures are reminiscent of the early 2000s. In the first eight months of 2026, Romania registered 86,142 new cars, with electric vehicles making up 7,018 units, a 50% increase from the previous year. Major European markets like Germany and France showed positive growth, while Romania led the decline, followed by Cyprus and Slovakia. Dacia's sales fell by 9.8%, despite the Dacia Sandero being the best-selling car in Europe.
