Cybercriminals exploit growing interest in AI, promoting fake AI agents that lure users into downloading malware disguised as cryptocurrency transaction aids. Once installed, this malware targets cryptocurrency wallet extensions in browsers, replacing them with fake versions to collect user data. Additionally, QR code phishing redirects users to fraudulent sites to steal credentials. Executable files were the primary malware delivery method, followed by archived files and PDFs. The report highlights the rise of Phantom Stealer malware and its new variant, Phantom Gate, facilitating data theft campaigns. Data was collected from HP Wolf Security clients between April and June 2026.
