Romania's oil dependency stands at 77%, making it the second least dependent EU country on imports. Despite high import levels, it benefits from some domestic production. Eurostat data shows that while Romania's dependency is significant, it is lower than that of Hungary, Italy, Germany, and France. The EU's overall oil import dependency is much higher at 96.6%. Brent crude prices have surged past $100 per barrel due to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about rising fuel costs. Kazakhstan is Romania's main oil supplier, and the country remains vulnerable to price fluctuations.
