Petrișor Peiu acuză Guvernul că ar fi ascuns 35 de miliarde de lei din deficit: „Sunt sume pe care nu le-a plătit la timp”
Senator Petrișor Peiu claims the Romanian Government reported a budget deficit significantly lower than actual figures from Eurostat, alleging intentional delays in payments. He argues that the difference arises from contrasting calculation methods, with the Government using cash accounting while Eurostat employs national accounting rules. According to Peiu, the actual deficit for the first half of 2026 should be 76 billion lei, compared to the reported 41 billion lei. Eurostat's data indicates Romania's deficit reached 7.4% of GDP in Q1 and 7.8% in Q2, the highest in the EU. The Finance Ministry attributes discrepancies to accounting adjustments rather than unpaid obligations.
