Peștele Asprete este în pericol de dispariție

Recent monitoring identified 150 aspreats in the Vâlsan River, with 76% concentrated in a 450-meter stretch. The population is hindered by a concrete barrier upstream and pollution from a wastewater treatment plant downstream. The number of aspreats has decreased significantly below the treatment plant. This endemic species is critically endangered and currently only exists in the Vâlsan River. Conservation measures are proposed, including removing barriers and modernizing the treatment plant, alongside a European-funded project for habitat restoration and species monitoring.
