An investigation named "Troy" has uncovered a criminal organization selling over a million used mobile phones as new across 19 countries, including Romania. The scheme, which caused at least 300 million euros in damages to EU consumers and over 30 million euros in VAT losses, involved assembling phones from used parts in Hong Kong and the UAE. These phones were then cleaned, packaged, and shipped to various EU countries, misleading customers. The operation involved 1,770 law enforcement officers conducting over 160 searches, resulting in several arrests in Austria, Germany, and Spain, including the organization's leaders.
