The name Alexander is most common among men, with 536,889 bearers, while 277,610 women are named Alexandra. Saint Alexander, born in 239 in Calabria, became a significant figure in defending Christian doctrine at the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in 325. He opposed the Arian heresy, affirming the divine nature of Jesus Christ. He served as Patriarch until his death in 337 at the age of 98, continuing to uphold Orthodox faith against various challenges.
