A 71-year-old man wrongfully convicted of murder in Utah has been released after DNA tests proved his innocence. Douglas Stewart Carter was sentenced in 1985 for the murder of Eva Olesen, but maintained his innocence throughout his incarceration. New DNA evidence did not match Carter, leading to his release. Witnesses later admitted they were coerced by police to testify against him. The Utah Supreme Court has ordered a new trial due to serious police misconduct, scheduled for 2027.
