In 2025, 16.3% of adults in the EU were obese, with 35.4% in a state of overweight, according to Eurostat. More than half of the EU population is overweight, totaling 51.7%. Malta had the highest obesity rate at 26.6%, while Italy had the lowest at 7%. In Spain, obesity was at 14.9% and overweight at 51.2%. Men had a higher obesity rate (17.4%) compared to women (15.3%), and pre-obesity was more common in men (41.9%) than in women (29.3%). Underweight was more prevalent among women (2.9%) than men (1%).
