Peste 80% din consumul de electricitate al României, acoperit de fotovoltaice la prânz. România a exportat aproape 2.000 MW

On August 15, Romania experienced a significant solar energy production peak, generating 2,445 MW, covering nearly 85% of the electricity demand. This resulted in an export surplus of approximately 1,960 MW. The unusual situation arose from high solar output coinciding with low weekend consumption. Despite the impressive solar contribution, the country faces challenges in energy storage and flexibility, as the nuclear plants were offline and hydro production was low. The rapid decline of solar output in the evening hours raises concerns about meeting demand without sufficient backup resources.
