Over 400 Romanians die daily from cardiovascular diseases, prompting the launch of the national campaign "Challenge 50/2030: Cholesterol Under Control!" on World Heart Day. This initiative aims for at least 50% of patients with high cholesterol to reach therapeutic targets by 2030. Experts highlight that hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, and smoking significantly increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Annually, around 150,000 Romanians die from heart diseases, surpassing the number of births. The campaign seeks to raise awareness about cholesterol levels and improve patient management, aligning with the National Strategy for Combating Cardiovascular Diseases 2025-2030, which includes developing reporting mechanisms and prevention centers across counties. Currently, only 15% of patients meet cholesterol targets, and the goal is to enhance legislative support for better health outcomes.
