The European Commission has approved a state aid scheme to support Romanian pig farmers affected by rising fuel and fertilizer costs due to the Middle East crisis. The scheme has a budget of approximately 59 million lei, equivalent to over 11 million euros, and will provide direct grants to farmers to partially compensate for additional costs incurred from March 1 to December 31, 2026. The aid amounts to 11.9 euros per fattening pig accommodation and 13.7 euros for breeding animals. Each enterprise can receive up to 50,000 euros. This decision follows the approval of a previous aid for cattle farmers, and the government aims to expedite the distribution of this support to farmers.
