The number of cyclists involved in traffic accidents is rising, particularly in Bucharest, where incidents have increased by 20% this year. Statistics show that 24 accidents involving cyclists occurred in the first eight months of this year alone in the capital. Nationally, 101 cyclists died last year, averaging one death every three and a half days. Additionally, 303 cyclists were seriously injured in severe traffic accidents. The Coaliția pentru Siguranță Rutieră emphasizes the need for both cyclist responsibility and protective infrastructure to enhance safety. Vulnerable road users, including cyclists, accounted for over 46% of traffic fatalities last year. The coalition aims to significantly reduce accidents in Romania by 2030.
