Pepenele de iarnă, gigantul din serele din Buzău. Fructul uriaș cu gust dulce-acrișor și înveliș de ceară rezistă până la șase luni
Winter melons, resembling watermelons, are set to appear in markets soon. They are sweet-sour, can weigh up to 20 kg, and have a waxy coating that extends their shelf life. These melons, also known as wax gourds, are currently being harvested at the Buzău Research Station. They are rich in seeds and have a taste similar to cucumbers and zucchinis. Their high water content makes them suitable for weight loss diets. Researchers highlight their long storage potential, lasting up to six months, which helps reduce losses and enhance production value. Sales for the pulp have begun, with seeds and seedlings expected in spring.
