A 2-year-old child in the Netherlands was euthanized after parents and doctors determined no treatment could alleviate his severe suffering. This marks the first case of euthanasia for a child under 12 since the law was expanded. The child, born prematurely, suffered from multiple health issues, including cerebral palsy and severe seizures. Despite medical interventions, his condition showed no improvement, leading to the decision to end his suffering. Euthanasia for terminally ill children aged 1 to 12 has been legal in the Netherlands for two years, with strict criteria for approval. Public support for euthanasia remains strong in the country, which legalized it for terminally ill patients in 2002.
