Pensioners in Romania face another setback as pension indexation scheduled for January 1, 2027, will not comply with the law, resulting in lower pensions. The law mandates annual pension adjustments based on inflation and wage growth, but the government plans a smaller increase of only 6-8%. This means pensioners could lose significant amounts, with average losses estimated at 150 lei for a pension of 3,000 lei. The failure to index pensions for the past two years has already cost retirees around 20% of their expected income.
