Romanians who worked in the US can combine their work years with those in Romania for pension eligibility, effective September 1, 2026. This agreement allows individuals lacking sufficient years in either country to qualify for pensions by considering their contributions in both systems. Each country maintains its own pension rules, and contributions are not transferred between systems. The agreement also benefits employees temporarily working abroad, allowing them to pay social contributions only in their home country.
