As of July 2026, mandatory pension funds held 246.8 billion lei, a 39% increase from the previous year. Most investments are in local assets, primarily in lei, with government bonds making up 61.6% of the portfolio. The number of participants in these funds exceeds 8.5 million. Optional pension funds also saw growth, reaching 9.14 billion lei, with a 40% increase year-on-year. Government securities dominate their assets as well, accounting for 59.7%.
