In Q2 2026, the average monthly pension in Romania reached 2,942 lei, marking a 0.3% increase from the previous quarter. The average number of pensioners decreased to 4.913 million, with a notable decline in state social insurance pensioners. The real pension index was calculated at 98.1%. Compared to Q2 2025, the average pension also rose by 0.3%. The majority of pensioners are state social insurance recipients, with women making up 55% of those receiving old-age pensions. The average gross pension for state social insurance was 2,821 lei, while the net average pension was 2,700 lei, showing significant regional disparities. Women consistently received lower pensions than men across all categories, with the largest gap in early retirement pensions.
