The country faces challenges in exporting surplus energy during sunny days while importing at higher prices during peak evening hours. Although there are numerous storage projects approved, only a small fraction is operational. The regulatory authority highlights that many projects exist only on paper, with only a few reaching advanced construction stages. New regulations aim to ensure that only viable projects proceed, but the existing backlog complicates the situation. A study due in October 2026 will clarify the actual capacity available in the grid, revealing the gap between planned and operational energy storage.
