The trout farms at the foot of the Făgăraș Mountains have become popular tourist attractions, drawing thousands of visitors. Established since the 19th century, these farms have evolved into leisure spots, benefiting from their proximity to hiking trails. The first significant trout farm was set up in 1888, aimed at breeding trout for local waters. Despite interruptions due to wars, the farms continued to develop, especially after World War II, under state administration. The introduction of the rainbow trout from North America in the early 20th century significantly boosted the farms' popularity due to its adaptability and growth rate. Today, these farms not only contribute to local tourism but also play a vital role in repopulating mountain waters with trout.
