The Hungarian Parliament has lifted the parliamentary immunity of Prime Minister Péter Magyar, allowing for a criminal investigation into allegations of theft involving a phone. The decision was made during an extraordinary session with unanimous support, despite the absence of Fidesz and KDNP groups. The case stems from an incident in June 2024, where Magyar allegedly took a phone from a man filming him in a club and threw it into the Danube. After initially being unable to proceed due to his immunity as an MEP, the investigation resumed after Magyar left the European Parliament. He requested the immunity lift himself, asserting he has nothing to hide. Other politicians also had their immunity lifted during the same session, related to separate investigations.
