Romania faces a paradox with high corn production despite reduced cultivated areas. Farmers expect better yields this year, yet the area planted has halved since 2018-2019. Climate change impacts, including rising temperatures and drought, push some farmers to switch crops and invest in irrigation. The estimated corn production for 2026 is around 8 million tons, but exports have significantly dropped. Central and Eastern European farmers are increasingly affected by recurring droughts, leading to a decline in corn cultivation. Romania's agricultural productivity is hindered by soil moisture anomalies, and the country has seen a dramatic reduction in cultivated corn areas, resulting in lower export levels compared to previous years.
