Europe is facing a gas supply challenge as storage levels are significantly lower than usual ahead of winter. Analysts warn that a cold winter or supply issues could lead to higher prices. Currently, EU gas storage is at 63%, well below the average of 80%. The UK, with limited storage capacity, is particularly vulnerable. Market concerns have escalated, with prices rising to over 68 euros per MWh, the highest in three years. Competition for liquefied natural gas (LNG) with Asia could further strain resources, potentially pushing prices above 100 euros per MWh if Middle Eastern exports do not resume. Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands have notably low storage levels, impacting the overall market.
