The Romanian President has enacted a law that strengthens penalties related to sexual abuse materials involving minors, including harsher sentences and regulations for AI-generated content. The law differentiates penalties based on the severity of offenses, with prison terms ranging from 5 to 12 years for producing such materials. It also addresses grooming explicitly, imposing penalties for soliciting minors to create or share abusive content. The legislation aims to clarify the distinction between exploitation and consensual exchanges among adolescents, aligning with Lanzarote Committee recommendations. The parliamentary committee will monitor the implementation of these new provisions.
