Oxfam susține că FMI obligă țările să aplice tăieri bugetare de patru ori mai mari decât în trecut

A recent Oxfam analysis reveals that countries borrowing from the IMF face budget cuts four times larger than in the past, raising concerns about a return to austerity measures reminiscent of the 1980s. The IMF has increased its demands for spending reductions, which undermine essential public services, particularly affecting low-income communities. Between 2018 and 2025, half of the borrowing countries are expected to cut public spending by over 2% of GDP. Oxfam warns that these austerity measures could weaken economic resilience and calls for the IMF to prioritize progressive fiscal policies instead of austerity.
