The Panathenaic Stadium in Athens is undergoing its first systematic cleaning in over a century to restore its original appearance. The project involves delicate methods to preserve the historical marble while removing dirt and organic material. The stadium, known as Kallimarmaro, has a rich history dating back to ancient Greece and was reconstructed for the first modern Olympics in 1896. Renovations include a new track and upgraded facilities, funded privately and coordinated by the Hellenic Olympic Committee. The work is set to continue until 2026, with preparations for the Olympic flame ceremony in September.
