Businessman Ionel Rusen has been brought to DIICOT following searches related to Călin Georgescu's case. He is accused of facilitating financial support for the 2024 electoral campaign and transferring funds to his wife's account. Rusen, a former rugby player, has faced allegations from New Zealand players regarding unpaid wages while managing a rugby club in Romania. DIICOT's investigation involves a criminal group operating in Romania and the UK, promising significant financial investments that were never realized, resulting in a total loss exceeding 1.1 million euros. Five search warrants were executed as part of the ongoing inquiry.
